Is Love Really Blind?
Well, according to a group of American researchers, it is. They have found that feelings of love lead to a suppression of activity in the area of the brain controlling critical thoughts. It seems that once we get close to a person, the brain reduces the need to assess their character and personality. Thus, whatever the person does, it is assessed less critically and with more tolerance.
Just as when one of my notorious boys was being suspended for fighting in school, a gal who has been secretly in loved with him described his action as being cool. Since when does breaking a school rule become such a cool action? Though in the eyes of the other students and teachers he is a rascal, he appears as sort of a saint in hers. She would be charmed by his every move and every action which she perceives as being suave. She shows indifference towards her friends' advice as she thinks that they are either just being petty or are envious of the way he does things. In fact, she would go to the extent of defending his actions and make them sound logical.
Of course not only gals get madly in love, guys do have their fair share of fantasies too. There are guys who fantasize being with gals whom others labelled as bitchy or cheap. But in their minds, these same gals are angels.
Who then is having the wrong perception? I would say neither as different people could look at the same group of people differently or should I say look at them from a different perspective. It's just like two persons facing each other and looking at a coin. If one is looking at the 'head' then the other will be looking at the 'tail'. They see different thing because they are looking at the same coin from a different angle and to get them to agree with what they saw they have to be facing the same direction. Just as nobody is perfect, nobody is a total idiot either. Even the most merciless serial killer or hardcore drug addict is being loved by somebody who sees them otherwise.
Those in love are blinded but only to the side that they don't see or don't wish to see, that is, the negative side. Whereas those who are not in love tend to magnify the person's faults and got blinded by it. So it seemed that we are all blinded at one time or another by how we choose to judge a person. When we are fond of a person we tend to see him/her in a different light as compare to a person whom we are biased against and thus practicing double standard. Of course there are people who are so crazily in love that they choose to ignore the obvious and ended up paying heavily for it.
So is it that love is blind to the truth or is it that love seeks truth? Anyway, one needn't be deeply in love to be blind as there are people who have eyes and yet don't see, so who is blinder? I would choose to be in love and yet keep my sight, what would you choose?
